Multiple Mail Downloads

Manny Carvalho

I just installed Outlook 2003, upgrading from office 97 to 2003 but using
OE, on my XP-SP1 box and it keeps downloading the same mail over and over.

I keep my mail on the server for a few days and when using OE, it kept track
of what was new and already downloaded. Surely, Outlook does the same and
I'm just missing that setting somewhere.

I thought my problem might be due to importing all my OE settings and I
tried removing Outlook using Add/Remove and starting over. Unfortunately,
after I rebooted and brought it back, all the settings were retained. I
suppose there are extend instructions how to remove Outlook somewhere but
for now,

Where can I tell Outlook to stop downloading old mail stored on the server?
My inbox is overflowing.

Thank you for the help.

Regards,
Manny

Control panel, mail. Create a new profile and see if it helps. Make sure you
choose more settings as you set up the account and set it to leave on
server.

As long as outlook isn't interrupted during the download, it should only
download once. if it still fails, enable logging in tools, options, other,
advanced.

Thanks for the reply Diane.

I'll try a new profile and see what happens. Are you thinking that somehow
when I imported my OE settings it caused a problem?

What is the file that keeps tracks of the downloads, do you know? I was
thinking if somehow that got corrupted I could just delete it and start
over.

I'll also turn on logging to see what commands get passed. What should I be
looking for?
