Multiple Outlook.exe instances

I have Outlook v2000 SP3.

I have been using Outlook Express, but decided I want the functionality of
the bigger client. The acct/mail transfer happened without issue, but it
seems that if I open Outlook, and then close it down, it remains in memory.
If I open it up again, then I have 2 instances in memory, and so on.

This is not correct behavior - any advice would be appreciated.
