multiple picture placeholders

I'm using Powerpoint 2003 and I would like to make a master slide that
contains 9+ picture placeholders and one title place holder. There's a
default format in layout content that has 4 placeholders I can use, but I
can't copy these to make a total of 9. Help...

You can't do this in PPT 2003. You can in PPT 2007, though.

I don't think it will work backwards, though -- that is, you can't make the
template with the extra placeholders in 2007 and save it as a template and
have that slide layout (or slide master, even) show up.

You can, though, add a slide in PPT 2007 that is based on that layout and
then save the file as a PPT 97-2003 file and open it in PPT 2003 and use it.
The placeholders on the "sample slide" still seem to work.
