I'm trying to reorganize a huge chunk of the folders on my website to shorten
and simplify the URL. Rather than create "moved to" pages for all of the
pages, is there a way to redirect someone who tries to go to an old page to
the index/home page of the new folder?

In other words, say I have the following webpages:

www.mypages.com/firstpage/summary/tableofcontents/chapters/index.htm
www.mypages.com/firstpage/summary/tableofcontents/chapters/one.htm
www.mypages.com/firstpage/summary/tableofcontents/chapters/two.htm
www.mypages.com/firstpage/summary/tableofcontents/chapters/three.htm

And I plan on changing these to the following pages to make it easier:

www.mypages.com/index.htm
www.mypages.com/one.htm
www.mypages.com/two.htm
www.mypages.com/three.htm

Rather than have each of the old pages redirect users to the new pages, is
there a way for me to just say that if someone tries to access any page that
used to fall in the folder www.mypages.com/firstpage, it will automatically
just redirect them to the new index page at www.mypages.com?

thanks!

Check with your web host, as this can be set directly on the server, depending on your web host,
otherwise you will need to learn server-side scripting, etc.
