multiple-value field for a project

E

Elena Osipova

Dear all,

hope to get your advice on the following: I need to create several
multiple-value fields characterising a project. For example: field
"Geography", list of values = list of cities where the project may be
performed (there can be one city, several cities on the choice and all
cities). I know that there's such an opportunity for resources to define a
multiple skill sets, but that doesn't work for a project-related field. What
can I do to solve this problem?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Elena.

Not sure I understand the question. Here's my answer. Use the Text fields for
your list of cities. Go to Tools>Customize>Fields>Text. Here you can create a
list for a drop box and rename Text 1 to Cities, Text 2..............
Is this what you're looking for?

hi Elena,

You can customize a custom field and define a list of values.

Click TOOLS and then Customize and then Fields
Click on the field you need to customize (for example click Text1).
Click the Value list button and enter the values.

In the value list dialogbox define default values, define and restrict
available entries for the custom field, or import a value list. If the data
entry option is set to restrict the field to only those items in the value
list, you might lose some existing data when you apply a value list to a
field.

Project Server does not support the use of multi-value Project fields or
outline codes. It does offer multi-value Resource outline codes in
enterprise Resource outline code 20-29. Hope this helps.

Dear gentlemen,

The issue is that I need to be able to choose several values from a list
(project-related field) at one time. (not one value from a restricted list of
values) and the way to make several fields with the same values also doesn't
work as in this case I will need from 10 to 30 additional fields what is not
good.

May be there's some alternative way to accomplish this? Actually, this
characteristic is necessary for portfolio analysis.

Thanks,
Elena

Elena,

Multiple values cannot be entered in a cell in MS Project.

Since you are doing portfolio analysis, you might want to read the portfolio
management section of MS Project on the microsoft web site.
