Multiple views of the same shape

I would like to be able to create a shape on one page and view it on another
page in the same Visio file. Is there an option to link a shape on one page
to a shape on a different page. When the original shape updates with
information, the linked shape would also update.

I had also considered having a shape be on multiple layers and use layers to
have the shape appear or disappear. Can a shape belong to more than one
layer?

I am using Visio 2007 Professional.
Thank you

Let's start with the easy one first. Shapes can be moved between layers and
also belong to different layers at the same time.

With regard to linking shapes, that's a little more complicated. If the
question you're asking is "can the same data be on two pages at the same
time", then yes it can. You can link two shapes to the same record (data
recordset functionality in v2007 pro) and when the record is updated the
information will change in each linked shape.

What if I don't want to link to an external data source like "ExceL" I just
want one shape to update another shape. Can I link shapes across visio
files? A change in the shape in one file will update the shape in another.
thank you
