Must open Excel reports twice with Office 2007

I'm in my first month with it, and am having trouble adjusting to Office
2007 Small Business.

When I open Excel reports from the drop down menu, I get an empty window
every time. Getting them open requires a second try. Word documents open
normally. I have the Excel problem on three different computers.

I use XP Pro. Thanks for any advice..
