Mutant pointer icon

The key combination Control+Alt+Hyphen changes the
friendly pointer icon from an outline arrow to a short
black horizontal bar. Can't find a quick way to change it
back. It reverts by itself after about 6 minutes. I've
just spent 2 hours searching the Net about this...any
suggestions?

That shortcut is to remove an item form a menu. If, having
pressed Ctrl+Alt+-, you click on an item in Word's menus,
that item will not be displayed.

Is this a proble? Are you expecting that key combination
to do something else?

You can exit that mode and revert to a normal cursor by
pressing the Esc key
