Custom View's are great for, among other things, applying
varried sets/settings of filters and hiding varied
rows/columns for sheets in a workbook.
The challenge is that when one goes to protect a sheet(s)
that has a "view," an error box comes up and the
protection scheme is not applied.
I understand that a similar situation occurs when
printing using Report Manager.
