My 4 changes to 5...

In both exel and word when I enter a 4 it changes to a 5, but only if it is
alone.
ie: when I type 14.01 that's okay however when I type 4.01 the 4 changes to
a 5.
also, if I type 14.41 that's okay but if I type 4.4 it will change to
5.5.
In exel if I add a 0 in front it will remain as a 4, but will not show the 0.
I have uninstalled the prog and re-installed. I have asked friends who are
much more knowledgable than me, and I have search the web, but haven't found
the answer. (This does not happen in other programs on my computer).
PLEEEEEEASE someone tell me how to change this, it has driven me mad for
months.

It sounds lik you have an AutoCorrect set.

In either Word or Excel, select Tools > Autocorrect Options from the Menu.

Under "Replace", enter 4
If a 5 appears under "With", you've found the source of your problem
Press Delete

This is an Office-wide setting. You only need to make the change in one app
to fix it in all.

I don't know how you've lived with this for months - I'd be banging my head
after minutes.

Believe me it hasn't been easy. Doing accounts all day long, you find ways of
getting around problems!!!
I have adapted, either by adding a 0 or sometimes I have had to resort to
adding formulas. Very tedious.

I can't believe that all the computer 'whiz kids' I asked didn't have a
clue, especially as the solution was so simple. My first time on this site
and my problem solved. What a result.
