My appointments are being sent as an attachment. How do I fix thi

I create an appt in my calendar and click on "Invite attendees". When the
message shows up in one of the other family members inbox, the appointment is
an attachment, and they are unable to drag it over and add it to their
calendar, or respond with accept or decline. How can I fix this
