my computer is too slow on both startup and processing help!

My computer seems to have slowed down a lot recently and I am not sure how to
speed it up. I seem to have a bunch of programmes that start on start up and
it now takes about ten minutes for me to get things going from turning on to
opening office. Not sure where to go for help with this though. Thanks if you
can help me with some advice. Mark

I work on a help desk and when that happens we do the following:

-Open IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, delete the temp files and the cookies
-restart the computer
-if that doesn't do the trick, run a spyware and adware program

Since this issue occurs completely before you invoke office, please post
your issue in the group for the operating system you are using. This
will be considerably more productive in resolving your computer problem.
