my display is large how do I make it small again

All my icons/toolbars, internet and outlook, pretty much everything is large
and I cannot work out how to make it back to the normal size. I have gone
into the display / appearance and everything is as it should be, but
everything is just so big and won't fit on my screeen

Display - Appearances doesn't cut it.. go to Display - Settings and alter
the screen resolution to 1024 x 768.. you may not be able to see the 'OK'
button, but it does not matter as it is highlighted by default, so just
press <ENTER>..
