Does any one have an idea how I can remedy this problem? My fon't s
are not loading at all when I open up a Word DOC. not even the system
fonts. My font book looks OK and I have run a program to detect
corrupt fonts. I'm getting at wits end! Any ideas ? I would certainly
appreciate some assistance.

Thanks

No fonts at all? What happens next? Is this when you start Word from
its icon or double-clicking on a particular document.
Version of Word? Version of Mac OS X?

You might try the font troubleshooting recipes at.

OK, so an existing document opens OK. Does the formatting palette show
what font some existing text has? If yes, can you use the formatting
palette to change the font.

Reinstalling the entire application was almost certainly a waste of
time.

Is the fonts menu item missing, or are there no fonts listed in the
fonts menu? If it is the former, go to tools » customize » customize
toolbars/menus and hit reset.

Finagler is a good tool, but I think it only fixes the system font
caches.
revisit

and clean up the Office cache as well, if the above trick did not work.

If it is the latter, then you have a very interesting problem indeed.
Check if another "Carbon" application can see the fonts in the font
menu.

I'm interested in this, because one of my machines will not let me
specify one or two fonts (currently from a cast of thousands !!)
I can confirm that GraphicConverter cannot see them either, although
Cocoa apps like TextEdit or OmniGraffle are perfectly happy, as is Font
Book.
