My Microsoft Office Word 2007 is losing capabilities like connecti

I've tried to use Research but I keep getting "No results found. Please
search again".

I was told that it's because I have no internet connection, but I do. My
default browser is Mozilla/Firefox but I also have IE. How can I reprogram an
internet connection into Word 2007 so that I can use the "Research Look Up"
function again?

Also, just a week ago the "drag and drop" capability stopped functioning. At
the bottom I see the message to move the mouse and drag and drop text, but
when I try, nothing.

I have Windows Vista 32-bit, Microsoft Office Word 2007 (Home and Student)

All these functions worked fine up until a few weeks ago, with "Research"
functions suddenly dropping out as first. I had removed IE7 because I use
Mozilla, but then decided to reinstall IE choosing IE8. Do I, perhaps, need
to reinstall IE7 too? Would that be the reason why although it's strange
since I hadn't have IE for the past six-eight months and everything worked
fine.

Please let me know.

If you cannot drag and drop, it may be a corrupt Word Data key in the
registry. Run Regedit and navigate to the key: with DATA selected, press
Delete. Word will create a new key when it is restarted.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Thanks Terry. I did as you suggested and deleted the DATA file. Curious point
is, it started to work again before I did, but when I deleted the file, it
stopped again. Your advise is helpful in that I now know Word creates a new
DATA file every time I open it just as long as I continue using the old
fashioned way of copying and pasting words/sentences until it somehow "gets"
what I want it to do. That's what happened.

Do you know how to fix my Research tab? It appears it can't connect to the
internet although I do have Verizon broadband and both IE8 and
Mozilla/Firefox (default). Is there any way I can edit the default browser it
needs in order to connect to the internet?

If you do, please let me know. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure about why 'Help' cannot connect. I use Firefox without any
problems. Do you have the Windows Live Office plugin installed? I'm told
that it can sometimes cause problems with Office. If you do, you can
uninstall it through Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features).

I've just had another thought. Are you able to access on line help? Just
open Word and Press F1 and it should connect you Microsoft on line help. If
not, what happens if you click on the "Connect" button at the bottom of the
Help dialog?

Hi Terry,

Thanks so much for your quick and attentive response.

Yes, when I follow your instructions, I am immediately connected to
Microsoft Online Help. At the bottom, right hand side of the window, it says
"Connected to Office Online".

I've tried using the Research Option while being connected, but still the
same "No results found. Please try again" message. I clicked on "Research
Options" at the bottom of the tab, then clicked on Encarta Dictionary:
English (North America) and in the pop-up window there's a Path:
http://office.microsoft.com/Research/query.asmx". Could this path be right?
When I copied and pasted it in my browser one time, it wouldn't connect, but
when I tried again, it connected to a small menu that explains the various
services offered.

I don't know if this has any bearing on the trouble I'm having with the
Research tab.

I'll be anticipating your response. Thanks so much for helping me.

The URL looks correct to me and works OK. I've no idea why this isn't
working for you.

Thank you for all your help, Terry. I'll just keep looking. Just wanted to
let you know, drag and drop is working perfectly once again! I'll keep your
tips in mind if ever the drag and drop stops working again.
