my office save browser box will not let me chage directory - why?

In any office application the program will allow the file to be saved in the
default directory (My Docs) but stalls every time I try to change to another
directory. This seems to be a limiting feature?!? - Is this normal of office
applications:)

If you are patient, the system will determine what drives are available
to use and then start responding again. To remove the "stall", open My
Computer, and r-click on and Disconnect any unavailable drives.
