Version: 2008 It says when ihttp://www.officeformac.com/macimages/btn_publish.gif try to open a powerpoint... "powerpoint does not recognize the type of file represented by "file_name". Has not opened ANY powerpoint on this computer since day one. Not good since i'm a college student. Not sure what to do... Just got my white Macbook a couple of months ago.

Make sure you have applied all updates for Office as well as OS X, then run
Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions.

If you continue to have a problem it may be a matter of how & from where you
are obtaining these files. What if you create a file yourself & attempt to
reopen it? You'll need to provide complete & accurate details in order to
determine what is causing the problem... This is not a universal issue so
there must be something isolated to your local setup or the files
themselves.
