My word only types red w/ strikethrough. Duh!

I'm using Word 2000 on an XP OS machine.
Was working fine with text and changes.
Suddenly it only writes in red and with a throughstrike. Both in typing and
when editing.
How can I fix it, please?

I would start by disabling all "track changes" options.
