Mystery styles being created

B

Brad MacBeth

I have created a template that is being used in many
documents. One person is having a problem. When she is
editing a document, new styles start appearing
named 'body char', 'body char char', 'body char char
char', and so on.

Our default style in these documents is called 'body'
We're using Word 2002, and Win XP.

The documents are using their own custom template.

Thanks for any and all help.

Hmmmm. Unfortunately, we've been on SP-2 for some time,
and are still experiencing the problem?

"keep track of formatting" was disabled, as
is "automatically update" styles. Yet, new
styles keep appearing with "char" at the end.
For instance, Heading 1 is followed by
Heading 1 char, which is followed by
Heading 1 char char, and so on.

The most common style in my document has 13
"char" additions to it, and if I delete the
style, my text reverts to "Normal" style, rather
than the "based on" style that is defined when
the style is created.

Worse, each "char" has its own unique gotcha -
some are bold, some are italic, and those
characteristics move up the list and change
the text they're applied to as each new "char"
style is created.

No fix?

Thanks.
