name word document

I click on new document and then try to name it, I get a
pop up that says, "If you change a file name entension,
the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to
change it?"

So I go ahead and change it and it changes looks with
colored dots across it. But it will still open as a word
docu. How do I get the orginal Word docu. back like I
had? Don't remember making any changes that would cause
this.

When you say you "click on a new document and try to name it", what do
you mean?
The message you refer to is usually displayed when you try and re-name a
file in Windows (vs. Word) and change the extension ("ABC.doc" to
"ABC.TXT", for example) .

Maybe you should elaborate a little bit on exactly what you are doing.
