nav bar changed bakground colour

wondering if someone can get me out of this mess... i
thought i'd play around with putting in a navigation
button, and all it seems to have done is change the
background colour of ALL the pages. Even if I try to open
a brand new page to start again, that background colour
(kind-of-grey-stipey colour) appears. There seems nothing
in the HTML of a NEW page to indicate why. Can anyone help?
