Navigation Bar and File Names

Stressed Out!

Hi, its been years since I've used Frontpage and I'm having difficulty. I've
got most things sorted but I've now put a navigation bar on each page linking
to the others. However, because the page names are "links.htm" or
"contact_us.htm" these are what are showing up in the navigation bar. I
can't change the name of the web pages because otherwise I don't get the full
page, i.e. the pictures might be missing. I've looked through endless
"Dummy" books but can't find a way of changing the wording in the navigation
bars or changing the individual web page names. Can someone help please.

I would guess that the wording of the links on the nav bars could be based
on the <title> of each page, so if you want to change the text on the nav
bar links, change the page title for each page.

That's done through the Page Properties options. I think you can right
click in a page, click "Properties" to access that option, there's a field
there to change the page title; or, switch to page view, and change the text
between the <title> and </title> tags for each page.

I could be wrong here, but try it and see if that works.

Renaming pages should affect anything like the pictures in a page. You
would just have to recalculate hyperlinks or similar, but that's about all.

Anyway renaming the pages is not necessary - just rename the title of each
page (different from the file name of the page).

Unfortunately, I've tried that... several times. I've also tried to rename
on "test" web pages and it just doesn't work. Even though the title in the
page properties says e.g. "Contact Us" when its on my links bar it still
shows up as "Contact_Us.htm".

I am beginning to wonder whether its a "bug" on Frontpage as its not just
occurring on one web page/web site I'm creating.

Thanks for your time in responding.

If you are using the FrontPage navigation bars, switch to navigation
view.
Right Click inside each of the yellow boxes (each box represents a page
in your site) and choose rename. This changes the link text, and
possibly the page title if the page does not have a title.

The link bars take the original name from the page title, or the page
file name if there is no title. Changing the page filename will have no
further effect.

Thank you Ronx I had the same issue and have been trying to find out how to edit the link bar naming. Your answered worked perfectly in FP 2003.
THX again!
