navigation bar variations

On the home and secondary menus, I want to show the child
pages. But on the bottom levels, I want to show
the "same" level buttons.

How can I set the navigation bar to be different at
different levels? When I change one, it changes the other.

Hmm...okay, but if don't use shared borders to get the
vertical buttons to be on the side of my text, how do I
get the buttons to run down the side instead of sitting
atop my text?

Do I have to manually create a table on that page and put
the buttons in column one? Or is there an easier way?
