Navigation Bars & Hyperlinks in Pub 2007

Hi ~

Part 1 of 2:
The horizontal navigation bar @ the bottom works when going forward in the
webpage (so starting with Home, then clicking on About Us, then on Contact,
etc.) However, when starting at the back, there's a scrambled response: two
of the correct pages come up; about 3 go to the wrong page and the rest of
the links go nowhere.

The vertical (main) navigation bar is scrambled in a similar (although not
identical) way, going forwards or backwards.

I've tried modifying each separate link (including the text on the link &
what shows in the browser window). No change in functioning.

How can I correct whatever I've done wrong?

Is there a way of linking the horizontal & vertical navigation bars so that
the changes made on one bar is also made on the other bar? For my website,
both bars should access the same places.

Part 2 of 2:
When I first inserted the hyperlinks, they worked exactly right.
Some still work exactly right. However, another link (on the same or
different page) doesn't work.

Goal: Fix the nav bar links & the hyperlinks "smartly" so that I don't
continue to tediously bang my head against a (figuratively speaking) brick
wall. Which is what I've been doing. I didn't see a previous answer to
these questions when I looked for threads for navigation...

Thanks!
[And DavidF -- yes, it's me again/still.]

If you are using a Publisher wizard built navbar, click on the navbar >
Format > Navigation Bar Properties. For each link click Modify Link and
confirm that it is linked to the correct page. Repeat with each page. If you
didn't use a wizard built navbar and inserted the links manually, then you
will have to select each link, and modify the hyperlink. The only way all
the navbars will be 'linked' together such that a change to one will
propagate to all the others is if you use the wizard to build them. But if
you use the wizard, then read the information we have posted about IE8 and
'grouping' including the wizard built navbars.

Hi, DavidF~
I've read Spike's stand-alone +, and have posed questions about my NavBars
on that thread.

This is a correction re: hyperlinks.

All the regular hyperlinks I put in are still working fine. [Working even
though I've flipped all the webpages every which way -- pretty amazing!]

It's just the links to the other professional sites with the Treatment
Visualizers & the on-line credit application that are not completely
functional. URL to those two sites are:
Tx Visualizers @ http://www.juvederm.com/professionals/toolsdownload.aspx

Credit info @
http://www.carecredit.com/webtoolkit/cosmetic/pdf/gettingstartedpdf.pdf; then
http://www.carecredit.com/webtoolkit/cosmetic/gettingstarted2.html

Quick Question on NavBars:

If my NavBars were made via Wizard, why would the H one work in one
direction? They should be linked together, right? 'tis true -- the
malfunctions are the same for 3 of the 4. But the 4th works? How does that
work? voodoo dolls?

Karen,

I will address the navbar issues first.

As you have read any Publisher wizard built navbars will eventually have to
be ungrouped in order for IE8 to render them correctly, so you will have to
plan accordingly. The same is true of anything you have on your pages that
are grouped. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use the wizard built navbars,
or that you shouldn't use grouping to layout out your pages. It just means
you should ungroup everything on the page before you publish your site.

Now from your other posts on this subject it sounds like you weren't able to
repair your navbars. They can get corrupted during the construction stage
where you are deleting, moving and adding pages. If you did indeed use a
wizard built navbar, then you can probably rebuild it fairly easily.

Scroll down to the bottom of your first page of your Publication. Go to
Insert > Navigation bar and you will be given two choices if you are indeed
using a wizard built navbar: new or existing. Choose 'existing' and you
should see both the main side navbar and the bottom navbar. Choose one and
insert it. Check the links to confirm they are pointing to the correct
pages. Then you can delete the old navbar and drag the new one up to where
it was. Do the same for the bottom navbar. Then repeat for each page of your
site.

If you weren't using a wizard built navbar, you can choose 'new'. Scroll
down to find the one you want to use and then select the options of
vertical, horizontal etc. Also note the Automatic Update and the option to
insert on every page. Once you insert the navbar, click navbar, and then the
wand below it, and add links to each page. That will add a navbar button for
each page and at the same time add the navbar to each page. This might be
faster than the first method I suggested if indeed the navbar design you
want to use is one available.

I will come back later to make another suggestion, but I am out of time this
morning. I will say one more thing...don't forget to backup your Publisher
file on a regular basis, and don't forget the Edit > Undo feature and the
fact that if you close without saving you can get back to where you were
before you try experiments such as changing your navigation system.

NavBars fixed throughout. Went to Web Page Preview, and checked 'em out
frontwards & backwards.

Easy peasy -- followed your instructions & it felt like magic, it was so
easy! Ta DA! <little tap dance>
