Navigation bars will not publish correctly

Steve Jones

I have just finished re-editing the office's web site and when I
uploaded the new version the navigation bars and banners are either
missing or bear no relation to what I require. The webbot can be seen
in the underlying html but is not visible in the browser.

I have tried overwrting the pages without success.

Any one have any ideas before I go insane. :)

Post a URL of the site online

Find out from your host what the correct home page file name is for your site, then rename your local site homepage file to the same
filename, Run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks and publish again
You have a
http://www.gmcro.co.uk/default.htm
and a
http://www.gmcro.co.uk/index.htm

|
| It's www.gmcro.co.uk
|
| I publish via FP2000 using the http protocol.

You have a

http://www.gmcro.co.uk/index.htm
<snip>

The page should be default.htm. It has been this for a while now.
Index.htm does not exist on the local machine.

The problem I am having recently arose when I wished to add a subweb.
I already had one of these and it was easy to set up and worked. When
It was when I decided on a second subweb that the problem arose.

This subweb refuses to publish the navigation structure and when
Frontpage detects a change in the this structure it offers to merge
and manage the changes for me.

Bad move. Instead of doing this it removes all the nav bars in the
main web site.

You nav bar is at
http://www.gmcro.co.uk/default.htm
but not at
http://www.gmcro.co.uk/
So either default.htm is not the servers 1st home page file, or your local site home page is not set to default.htm

OK. I have it back now. Well at least the main site. Default.htm is
present locally and remotely.

The subweb I have created at <www.gmcro.co.uk/communityspirit> remains
hidden from view as the navigation bars within the subweb refuse to
publish. Trying to do so destorys the main site's nav bars.

Either communityspirit is not a subweb (just a folder) or your host does not support subwebs
File not found at http://www.gmcro.co.uk/communityspirit/_vti_inf.html
vs. the root web at http://www.gmcro.co.uk/_vti_inf.html
- does it have the web folder Icon in it when you open your root web in FP
- can you open it as a subweb independent of your root web

Then open http://www.gmcro.co.uk/communityspirit/ in FP and apply the toolbars and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

| On both counts, yes.

OK. Did this and republished this had the effect of

a) No navigation bars or page banners published in this subweb

b) All navigation bars and page banners destroyed in the root web.

Tried recalculating links in the root web. On republishing, this
restored the left hand nav bars but these now included pointers to
pages in the sub web. This is not what I require.

I now have a copy of Dreamweaver and will now switch to this because I
give up on FP
