Navigation pane

Hi guys

I know how to minimise and maximise the navigation pane, and I also know how
to hide it and reveal it, but can someone tell me how to keep it minimised
when opening a database?

Background:

I have a number of menu driven databases that sometimes require access to
the underlying tables and queries, so I don't want to hide the navigation
pane, but I find that when I open these databases the navigation pane is
open, and my opening form is distorted because of it, and therefore is not
suitable for use by the "uninitiated".

Can anyone help?
