I'd like to make a template for a series of seminars. Each seminar will
contain 5 - 7 objectives. I'd like each to have a frame on the left side
containing a list of the objectives which is persistent throughout the
presentation so the presenter can click on any topic and go to that slide.
I'd also like the currently viewed objective to be highlighted.

Listing the topics on the master slide makes add/deleting new objectives and
creating the hyperlinks tough. Copying the list onto each slide also makes
changes hard because every change will requie updating every slide.

With html this would be simple because one page can contain two frames each
of which can be loaded/updated separately.

It seems like this should be simple in powerpoint as well but i don't know
how to do it. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

Thanks, bob

Why does listing the topics on the master slide make add/deleting new
objectives and creating hyperlinks tough? This seems like the easiest way
to go. The only tough part I can see is highlighting the button for the
current objective. This could be done in two ways (that I can think of):

(1) Use multiple masters so each objective has its own master slide. All
masters would be identical, except that each would have it's own button
highlighted.
(2) Create something for each of the slides to cover up that objective's
button. The covering object could be a new button that is highlighted, or
it could be a semi-transparent box that will make the button look faded
out.

I'm not quite sure how this would be easier in HTML; you'd still need
something different as that menu frame for each of the objectives.

I'm guessing that I don't understand your question properly, so if this
doesn't help, try to explain it again.
