"Necking" Bars on Gannt

Lamar Atkinson

Is there any way to 'neck' (reduce the thickness) the bars on a Gannt Chart
for periods of inactivity? Alternatly is there any way indicate inactive
periods on the bar via color, pattern etc?

Thanks

Hi,

This is crude and no doubt attract some justifiable criticism, but this is
how I have shown an activity with two possible end dates for a report. (It
is the way my manager wanted it shown). I created a task the full length of
the period, then split the task and 'pulled' the end of each part of the
split to show the end dates being looked for.

Hope this helps, but remember it is very crude and I have only used it to
show a specific message ina report, not for scheduling purposes.

Hello Lamar,

Sorry, no. If you have the inactivity in a base calendar as
nonworking time, you can change the display of the Gantt chart to draw
the nonworking time in front of the bars. Choose Format > Timescale
and click the Non-working time tab. Select the "In front of task
bars" option.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks DavidC

This will not get me what I wanted but there is certainly no criticism due.
You used a creative method to address a need! This seems to be a requirement
of those who use this tool.

Thanks Julie

I suspected as much. Hopefully MS will address this need in a future
release. Thus far, Project is the only project management tool I have seen
that does not have this feature.
