You need to check with your host for access to the server stats. A hit counter is just that, a hit
counter and will count every time the page is requested from the server.

What I did was create a preface page with the counter,
which takes you to the home page, with no links back.

Ok, but them how do you avoid users that use the Browser Back function which increase your count, or
users the bypass your default document (preface page) directly to other pages in your site either
from a search engine, etc. where they are not counted?

Just a quick question Thomas,
If a user clicks back, then doesn't this retrieve the page from his cache?
Then the counter wouldn't count it unless the user refreshed?
Unless of course a user has selected to not cache any pages.

wp,

You are correct, as long as the user doesn't have there browser set to not cache pages, the counter
will not update.

Thanks,
Just wanted to get my mind straight on this. Reason is I use cable and check "every visit to the page" which doesn't really take that much time to display.

I also have IE set to do the same..
