need error fixing/maintenence mode on XP, help !

Hi all,
Ive been having sporadic problems whereby my so jumps back to my
homepage when I try to go to a URL. I checked for spyware AND viruses
with AdAware and Spybot , and NortonAV 04 for xp.

Someone knowledgeable suggested i use the xp disc and try to get it to go in
and find and
correct the OS problem using a maintenence/diagnostic mode.

Does anyone know how to do this?

May I suggest one of the Windows XP newsgroups. This one is for the Access Database
