Hi,

my FP generated sites are hosted on a non-Windows server that uses cPanel.
Ever since the new update of cPanel, sites that are uploaded with FP 2003 are
getting changed by the server.

see http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=42067

It duplicates the index.htm file so that all the sudden there are two index
files .htm AND .html. The navigation of the pages is changed by the server so
that half of them point to index.htm and the other half to index.html

I don't know how long this is going to take to get it fixed, but I have some
questions how to keep my site up and running in the meantime.

1. is it possible to change the index page to index.html, but leave the rest
as .htm without losing any FP features such as forms, etc.?

2. other people that are having the same problem said that when they upload
their sites with FP 2002 everything seems to work fine. Is it possible to
run FP 2002 and FP 2003 side by side on the same computer?

Please help. Thank you

That has nothing to do with CPanel.
It is the server setting for the default document.
When you publish, FrontPage checks with the server and
if the .html extension is required, the home page ( index.htm )
in the web root is automatically renamed.

The only index.htm that is renamed is the one in the root.
index.htm files in other folders are not renamed.

The fix is: Rename your home page on your local machine to index.html
and when prompted, let FrontPage update the links.

When it's done, "Publish" the entire web.

Then open the live web and delete the index.htm file from the root
folder.
