Could somebody walk me step-by-step through the process of getting a pdf (music notation) file included (is that the same as embedded?) on my website? I'm using FP 2003, my pc has windows xp. I'd appreciate any help. (I'm not a techie, learning everything by trial and error--mostly errors)

Import it to a folder inside your web site.
Link to it like any other file.
Save the page.
Publish.

With your web open, File | Import the pdf into your web, then, create a link
to it on the page. Then publish to your host server.

Hi Tom

I have a few sites that email me a newsletter in .pdf attachment for their website. I save the attachment directly to a folder in the website. FP sees it there and allows me to link to it. I publish, it gets uploaded, no problem
Never needed to use the import file dialog. I have also drag/drop other files (images, etc.)

I tried what Steve and Tom suggested but am still having difficulty. I created a folder in my website and imported the pdf file to it, and created a link to the folder from its page. When I clicked on the new link, it opened the folder on my hard drive. Not cool. What am I doing wrong? Also, in one of my previous attempts, the pdf file imported directly to my page as a bunch of gibberish. thanks in advance for your help.

You must have a web open in FP when you import the PDF into the folder (File Menu | Import) within
your web and then create a link to the document.

Thomas, I did have my website open, created a new folder specifcally for my pdf file, imported the file into it, linked to the folder. what next?

Why did you link to the folder instead of to the file itself?

need to clarify what I did ... when I previewed my link in my browser and clicked on the link, that's when it went to the hard drive folder. when I'm just in design view and click on the link, the error message says the web or file doesn't exist.

Can you provide the URL

I don't think you've imported it or in the hyperlink dialog box you're
browsing to the wrong file. ;-)

just link to the file with the following code (changing the url to your own etc).

<a href="http://www.yoururl.com/music.pdf">Link to the file</a>

or through Insert > Hyperlink.

You don't need to embed or include it.

did you publish the file(s) to your server?

When you click the link it should by default open the Adobe reader and then open
the PDF file.

you need to link to the FILE .ie the PDF file not the folder.
