Need help publishing site to web

A

Abi

I am new to the whole web design/publishing/ownership thing, so I could use
any step-by-step help possible.

I created a site in Publisher and am ready to upload it to my site which I
purchased on Yahoo. Per the Yahoo website and their instructions:

"To publish a site you created with Publisher, you'll first need to set up
FTP by adding an FTP location:

Choose "Publish to the Web" from Publisher's File menu.
In the "Save in" box of the "Publish to the Web" dialog, under "FTP
Locations," choose "Add/Modify FTP Locations."
Enter your FTP settings in the fields provided. You can find your personal
FTP settings on the Create & Update and Manage tabs of your Web Hosting
Control Panel, in the Web Hosting Account Details module under "FTP Account
Info."
Click "OK" to save your settings.
Choose "OK" again to finish your FTP setup.
When you're ready to publish your site, you can upload your web site files
to your account via FTP:

Choose "Publish to the Web" from Publisher's File menu.
In the "Save in" box of the "Publish to the Web" dialog, choose "FTP
Locations."
Double-click on the site to which you want to publish. If you want to
publish to a subfolder of that site, navigate to that folder now.
To publish your web site files to this location, click "Save." "

I tried to do this...I think I followed all the instructions, but I couldn't
get anything to work. I'm not sure what I need to enter beyond the host name
when I do the add/modify. The window asks for anonymous or user, and if a
user a password. I have no idea what I need to do.

Help! Thanks!

Hi this is the same for me, the FTP program is not user friendly and you are
in the same boat as me. I want to find a add on that works by just changing
the file name and pressing enter. Ross

The instructions you found with the Yahoo post are obsolete with the
introduction of IE7. As per your other post:

I don't know of any automagic sort of addin that does what you want to do.

FTP uploading has changed in recent years with changes in IE, but it is not
that difficult. First all assuming that you are using Pub 2003 or 2007 then
you will go to File > Publish to the web and direct your web files to your
local computer where you can find them. Unless you change the defaults you
will get an index.htm file (your home page) and an index_files folder that
contains all the graphics and the other pages in your site.

Then I would suggest that you download and install FileZilla, a free FTP
client:
http://filezilla-project.org/

Also go to this page and read the instructions for useing FileZilla:
http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Using

Then read the instructions on your web host about what setting to use with
FileZilla and upload the index.htm file and the index_files folder to your
site. The instructions on how to FTP and possibly even how to use FileZilla
with your web host will most likely be in the FAQ or support sections.

It may take you a while to figure all this out the first time, but after
that it should be easy to update your site.
