need help saving files with CD Rom CDRW in Word 2002 Windows XP

Kaja

Hi, hope someone can help me. I am using windows XP home as my OS with Word
2002. For some reasons now since I upgraded to word 2002 I cannot save .doc
word documents onto my D drive which is my CD Rom drive. It is a CD RW drive.
The computer tells me "the paramater is incorrect" and then tells me I do
not have access to the drive I do not have an admistrator account. This
worked before and i didn't change anything. My mom and I both have an account
with no administrator accountas far as I know. Any advice would be
appreciated. TIA

Hello Kaja,

You've landed in a discussion group for users of Mac versions of Word. The
Mac OS is of course very different from Windows. Although there are several
people here who are experts in both Mac and PC, and they may come by soon,
you're likely to get quicker results in a discussion group for PC Word.

Hi Kaja -

Regardless of what you may have been able to do in the past, don't try to
save directly to removable media of any type... Nor should you attempt to
Open a file directly form removable media. Doing so is a sure-fire recipe
for damaging the file.

Always use Windows Explorer to copy the file to your hard drive & work with
that copy. Then use an Explorer window (or CD burner software) to copy the
file to the removable media if necessary. In fact - I'm not 100% certain on
this as I don't even make the attempt - later updates to PC Word/Windows
don't permit saving directly to a CD... Which may be why you're getting the
error in the first place.
