Need help showing/managing delays

I'm working on a complex Federal design/build construction project that
requires owner review of multiple design packages prior to start of
construction. The entire construction schedule is dependent on their
review and authorization to proceed. The original schedule included time
for that review, but they are quickly falling behind and can't/won't
provide a projected remaining duration or completion dates. Once the
reviews have actually been completed, I can update the actual finish
dates, but until that point I need a clean way to reflect the delays to
keep the rest of the schedule from just slipping into the past. The way
I've come up with is to use a leveling delay on the successro tasks
which then zeros out when I enter actual dates. Any ideas. thanks

kinetix,
The normal way of tracking actual to planned is via a baseline. When a
schedule plan is first developed, a baseline should be set. I don't have
Project open at the moment but as I recall its, Tools/Tracking/Save
Baseline. Then as progress starts on the plan, you can use the Tracking
Gantt view to graphically see the current plan versus the original (i.e.
baseline).

Hope this helps.

Maybe I'm not describing it accurately. I have a fair number of critica
tasks which are incomplete yet have a scheduled completion date which i
in the past and for which the resource can't give me any indication of
probably (future) completion date. So I'd like to find a way to updat
the status (finish) on these tasks each week without just altering th
task's scheduled durations. MY baseline does show that they are late
still I have to do something or the finish dates will stay in the past

Hi Kinetix,

We use something similiar to the solution recommended by Trevor Rabney in
your earlier post of this question under the subject "Handling Project
Delays". When a decision is required by our client, we insert a task for
that decision and make it the predecessor for subsequent action tasks.
Then, when our client delays his decision, I simply extend the decision task
and this automatically pushes the rest of the project schedule out to the
right. If you need to capture the increases, you could use baselines as
John suggests or just insert a note on the task. I currently have 2
projects where I've extended the decision task repeatedly.
