need help unlocking word document

Having trouble with word document. the program is not
allowing me to type a document. when i press the keys the
bottom of the screen says, "This modification is not
allowed because the document is locked.

If this is true of all documents, you may need to activate your copy of
Word? Check under the Help menu. If there is a command there about
"Activate" try it. If you have a version that doesn't require activation
there won't be such a command. If you have already activated, it will tell
you that.
