need help with formula

I have a 12 month employee calendar were
A1= john doe
A15 = January 1
V= vacation
If I enter V8 ( 8 hours ) I want John Doe's name to appear on a master
calendar

So what if you have
John Doe.....V8
Jane Doe
John Smith......V8
Jane Smith.....V8
...etc?
How are you supposed to differentiate?, you need to use an id number or
such like, maybe even fillin the calendar from a date related to their
name.
