Need help with "if" function in Excel

I am trying to set up a spreadsheet and Need to put in the following function:

If a cell says "yes" I need to add a dollar amount and if it is "no" I add
nothing. Could someone please give me some VERY easy to understand
instructions on how to put these formulas in?
