Need help with strange Excel behavior

Hi everyone,

A workbook that I put together started behaving strange.
some of the sheets have cells that have formulae that link
them to different sheets (but within the same workbook).

I found that some (maybe all, not sure) of the cells that
refered to other cells were not showing the updated data.
For example I had updated some cells with new numbers. The
cells that were refering to this newly updated cells were
still showing the previous numbers !! But if I clicked in
the formula bar of these cells and without changing the
formula, hit enter, it now suddenly "reads" the new number
from the other cells !!!
I checked the option menue to see if I have the workbook
calculating automatically, and yes, it is checked. I even
clicked on "calculated now" button and that didn't help
either. I closed, rebooted the computer and checked
thosed cells... they weren't updated. Only when I clicked
in the formula bar and hit enter did they "read" the newly
updated values in the other cells to which they were
linked.
Any idea what on earth is going on here?

Much appreciated

I'm not sure why it's happening, but you could try this to see if it "re-syncs"
your calculations:

Edit|Replace
what = (equal sign)
with = (equal sign)

Excel should see each formula change and reevaluate it.

Then try a few tests to see if the formulas update correctly.

Please post back with your results.

thanks for the tip.
I did go to each one of the multiple sheets and replace
equal sign with equal sign.
I assume when you're in a particular sheet and any
particular cell within it, Excel will search all cells
within that sheet and replade?

I won't be able to test it because eversince I clicked
within the formula bar and hit enter, those cells that I
had detected not being updating, did update by themselves.

There may have been some cells that were not and because
this is a very large workbook, I may have not detected it.
But I retested those cells that I was suspecious after I
did what you suggested and they are porperly functioning.
i.e. updtating !
I hope that your solution has taken care of whatever it
was......
If not, do you suggest that I repost under an new post? My
worry is if I reply to this in a few days noone will go
back and check.

Thanks for you help, really.

If you have more than one cell selected, then only that selection will be
affected.

But if you only have one cell (or all cells) selected, then the whole sheet will
be affected.

And if can find this thread, post back to it.

But if you can't (maybe a trip to google would be helpful), then create a new
thread--just give enough info so that people can figure out what you're writing
about (especially if it didn't work) <bg>.
