My question is if I bought Office XP Professional, can I load that onto
another computer without violating license laws.
It depends on whether you purchased a retail copy or if it came already
installed on your compter. Generally speaking, if it's a retail copy, you
can install on one desktop machine and one laptop, not to be used
concurrently. If it's an OEM (came with the computer) version, then can only
be installed on the computer it came with. To be on the safe side, you'll
want to read the EULA for your version of Office.
To find the EULA in Office XP, open Word or another application, go to
Help|Microsoft <application> Help|Contents. If you don't see End User
License Agreement after you expand the contents, you should be able to turn
it up by searching for EULA or License.
The Office XP EULAs used to be online, but it seems they've been taken down.
All I see now are Office 2003 EULAs.
If I may, and can't find my
discs, is there a way to download the change from Microsoft. Do they have
a
record of my having registered?
Not sure what change it is you want to download, but even if you registered
with Microsoft, it doesn't serve as any kind of proof that you own the
software or anything like that.
If you can't find your disks, you can order a new set from Microsoft. I
don't know if you can still get Office XP disks, though.
