Need some assistance with Migrating Project Server 2007

Hello All. Here is my current problem. We are looking to migrate our
current Project Server 2007 setup to a new server in a new domain. Of cource
we want to be able to do some testing first so that is where my problem is.

My current setup is a single server setup. Project Server 2007, WSS 3.0,
and the Database (SQL 2005) all on one server.

Our new setup will be Project Server with MOSS 2007 on one server and the
Database on a different server.

Now what our admins have done is backup our WSS_Content database, and the 4
databases from one of our PWA sites. We moved them over to the new database
server, and they have done the initial setup on the Project Server to include
setting up the web applications and SSP.

The problem we now face is that the WSS_Content database we moved over is
showing the sites in the site collection so when I go to create a new PWA
site with the same site name it tells me that it already exists and I need to
use a different name.

My question is can we get around this, and if I delete the site from the
site collection will I be able to recreate it and will it still have the same
data as before.

Is there a better way to do this. I have tried the backup/restore meathod
in Central Admin, but that is not working, it keeps erroring during the
restore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your problem is that most likely the old PWA site is the top site in the site
collection containing the workspaces. If you simply delete it, you'll lose
those workspaces.

The easiest option is to create a new PWA site in a new site collection with
a new name, then run the Site Relinker Tool to point back to your old sites.
The result though is that you'll get funky URLs where PWA and the old sites
don't match. Maybe you could fix that by creating a third site collection
and just setting MOPS to create sites in that third site collection, thereby
phasing out the old one....

Your other option is to extract PWA from the site collection. There's a
Technet article or two on that I believe. Search for terms around swapping
out the top level site in a site collection.

I don't think this is the same article I saw once, but it's close and should
point you in the right direction....
