Need to change default Project Server DB names

T

Our DBA would like to change the default database names created during our
installation of Project Server 2007. They are currently named the following:

- SharePoint_AdminContent_eebf5843-5486-4ebc-94d6-bd4c7799b01d
- WSS_Content_efd493c497154ea0b19c5bd9cf4dc6ca

All we want to do is remove the serial information on the end. In removing
this information will the application blow up? If so, what is the best way to
rename these database so the application continues to function correctly?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

The DBA cannot just change the name of the SharePoint Admin Content DB. This
will break the application.
You will need to undergo a process to change or rename these Databases and
may required you to reprovision the Project Web Access.

You will need to use the SharePoint command line tool psconfig to change the
name of the Admin Content DB.
This again will require you to re-provision Project Web Access and ccopy
over desired Project Workspaces.
This activity need to be planned out.

To be perfectly honest I would pursude the DBA to leave the name as it is as
there is a lot of work, that could go wrong.
