need to create flow diagram

I am trying to create a flow diagram in Word with text written within little
boxes and arrows pointing to text within other boxes. I can't figure out how
to do this. I am new to this software.

Start by inserting a drawing canvas (Insert | Picture | New Drawing). Then
display the Drawing toolbar. Insert text boxes or AutoShapes from the
Drawing toolbar (there's a whole category of Flowchart AutoShapes, but
you'll need to right-click and choose Add Text to put text in them).
Connectors are also on the AutoShapes menu.

And just in case you haven't discovered it as yet... the gray striping at
the top of the AutoShapes menu & submenus indicate that they can be "torn
off" - drag the palette into your work area away from the menu & it will
remain where you put it for as log as necessary, just as a toolbar.
Especially handy if you're repeatedly going to be using tools from the same
palettes over a period of time. When done, just click the 'x' in it's upper
right corner to send it back to where it came from.

Thanks for that, Bob. I don't use the drawing tools much, so I hadn't
realized that (or had forgotten it).

Yeah - Tear-off menus are one of the few truly functional "bells 'n'
whistles" added to Word over the years yet [ironically?] one that is
consistently glossed over in - or omitted from - the advertising hype.

Thank-you very much Suzanne. This has helped! I think I will be able to
complete my project now...If I have other questions... I will post them.
Thanks again.

And not available in Word 2007. <sigh>
