Need to end existing recurring appointment but keep history

I have appointments scheduled as recurring with no end
date. I occasionally will delete a single recurrence.

However, when I do want to end the recurring appointment
on a specific date, all of the past recurriences "fill-
in" and the past history of when a single recurrence was
deleted is changed.

How can I keep the history intact and change the end date
of recurring appointments?
