Need to hide entire columns via applescript

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I do apologize if I missed a thread where this might have been revealed. I also expect it to be simple, but have tried for a while with no success...
I am processing a spreadsheet into data stored on a new worksheet. I then need to prepare the newly created sheet for printing. Several columns need to be hidden. I am using applescript because I am creating 20 to 40 different sheets each time the script is run.

I found the hidden property for a range. It sounds like what I need to set to true. Most of my attempts result in:

Microsoft Excel got an error: Can't set hidden of range "Y:AB" of active sheet of active workbook to true.

I have tried various versions of:

set hidden of range "Y1:AB1" to true

Any help greatly appreciated!
