Need to know deadline - how it affects scheduling + Replace Resour

Dear MPS2007 Friends,

First Question: I am using MSP 2007 recently. Somewhere I came across the
information about deadlines in Project tool. It says, there are two instances
in which deadline can indeed affect the task scheduling. However, it skipped
the explanation part of this statement. I am trying to figure out 'how' of
it. Can anyone assist?

Second question: Does deadline come into picture when we are planning the
project or when we start entering actual efforts and project schedule slips
deadline? Sorry I am very new to 'deadline'.

Third questions: What is the logic behind resource replacing? I am not
behind resource substitution wizard (which I know if available only with
Project server, which I don't have). But if I try to replace one resource
that is currently working on one task that is partially completed then does
it keep old resource for the partially completed task and assign new resource
for remaining task? Does it consider resource calendar for second resource
and availability? I am trying these myself however little complex for me
before I get the answer. Appreciate if some can throw some points in this.

Thanks In Advance.

Hi,

Why post this isn the developer newsgroup?
This being said, here are the answers:

1. Deadline can affect Total Slack (make a task critical or reduce its
slack) which in turn can chage the priorities when you do resource leveling.
AFAIK that is the only way deadline will affect t he schedule.

2. Knowing what it does and does not do, that is up to you - depends on your
scheduling and PM process.

3. These are 2 questions, and both answers are yes.

Hope this helps,
