Need to migrate BCM 2003 data into BCM 2007

When I try to use the .bcm file to import old data into BCM 2007, I get an
error message about fields not matching. The alternative would be to use
..csv export, but that moves only contacts and accounts, but not the rest of
the data (email tracking etc.) and this is unacceptable for our clients. We
are considering upgrade to BCM 2007 to be able to use SQL back end and
therefore IT department having more control over backups and data. Currently
this is poorly handled by the user. Plus, when that user is not at the
office, nobody can access the shared database. Using a separate back end
somewhere on the server would solve our problem, but it is not going to work
unless we can move all of the previous data from BCM 2003 into BCM 2007.

Did anyone have any experience with this?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Do not import the file. Goto create/select database and select your current
database (after you made a backup)

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunatelly we cannot use the existing
database. The current database is on the workstation and IT has no control
over backups. Also, other users cannot connect if the workstation is off
line. We wanted to migrate to BCM 2007 to be able to have the database on
SQL Server and have control over backups.

I spent days online searching for solutions, but came up with nothing. I'm
hoping someone else had a similar problem and was able to find a solution.

Are you saying that there is no way you can even get a copy of the database
to used?

I can get a copy of the database, but what am I supposed to do with it when I
copy it? I'm not really sure what you are asking. We are trying to have a
client/server configuration which BCM2003 does not support. The purpose for
the client/server configuration is the control of backups and user access.
We tried to install BCM 2003 on a server which already has a full version
SQL2000 installed, but it didn't work. BCM2003 seems to only work if
installed on a workstation that does not have an instance of SQL already
installed. BCM2007 supports the client/server configuration but it rejects
data created by BCM2003. Without being able to migrate the data, we cannot
upgrade to 2007.

I did not realize that you wanted to stay working in a client/server
situation. I was suggesting the copy because you could have Outlook 2007
automatically convert 2003 db to 2007. I don't know about the client server
situation.

How would I convert 2003 BCM database into 2007? When I try to import 2003
data export into 2007 I get an error about the fields not matching between
the two versions and it never runs. Is there any other way to do this?

Don't try to import. Just go into BCM toolbar - Database tools, create or
select database and then navigate to where the 2003 database is and Outlook
will upgrade it to 2007 (might want to keep copy of 2003 database just in
case you want to go back)

Hi Arijana,
Can you please send the error message and the log file about not matching
fields?
I will try to identify the issue.
Thanks
