negative fixed cost

I am trying to come up with a statergy to use -ve fixed cost without using
the Fixed cost field. For normal +ve fixed cost, i use the cost resources.
Is there any way to associate a -ve cost to a resource?

sujit,
There is no such thing as a negative resource rate, nor is there a
negative fixed cost. It sounds like you are trying to do some "creative"
accounting. Something like that can be done in a spreadsheet or a
financial application, but it is out of scope for Project.

However, Project does have spare fields that can be customized with a
formula. If you could explain your end goal, maybe we could help.

Thanks for the reply John but the negative fixed cost DO exists. We use it
to show chargebacks. You can enter -ve Fixed cost in the Fixed cost field.
I am trying to find out a workaround for this method so that i dont have to
use Fixed cost field.

If I understand correctly, create a resource called _NegativeCost and
make sure it is a material resource with a cost of -£1 (or whatever your
favourite currency is). It works for us, although I personally think
the cost fields are the right way to do this.

Thanks Dave....this is pretty close to what i wanted and looks like this is
the only option. The reason we dont want use cost field is because we want
to make sure that we have fxed cost associated with locations. We can use
fixed cost field with location by introducing a custom field for the task but
again it ties down my ability to assign a cost to a task spread across
different location.

Thanks
Sujit
