It's been at least 4 weeks without questions about "Nessie", i.e the free
web infopath viewer. It's time to add a new one !
First, I had a look to xforms tools and today (feb, 2005) , I think that
anybody can see right away they are far behind Infopath (ergonomy, easy to
put in action). But perhaps this will change and good authoring xfoms
software will come this year.
But there is anyway a point for which those "non existing tools"
are better than Infopath, the fact that xforms are free of use on thin
clients. And this is probably the weak point of Microsoft Infopath. It's not
a problem to be in Office or not, it's a problem to be usable with only a
browser…that pilots the choice. A few solutions propose to convert infopath
to be used by the web, but is it credible to propose to someone who is
searching a free tool… to buy one ??! Others propose to view the form, but
not fill it. Hum...
So, does Microsoft wait to turn on the key of free infopath viewer when
they’ll see that xforms are rapidly increasing because of this major
limitation ? Perhaps this will rise some more comments and informations
about the future of the future free viewer.
