new computer activate

My husband is currently stationed in Iraq and would like to activate is MS
office 2003 on his laptop. However there is no way he can connect his
personal computer to the internet. Furthermore it is nearly impossible for
him to activate via phone. It is crucial for him to actvate his already
installed upgrade since he needs it for his online college work.

Is there a way I can activate for him? If so, which info does he have to
give me? I would be grateful for any advice.

No you can't on his behalf unless you have his laptop/desktop with you.

Activation requires the registry to be written to and you can't do this
for him.

You need either access to Internet (Iraq has many Internet Cafes) or you
need a telephone (Iraq has many areas from where you can call). Also,
if he is in the army then clearly he has acces to the state of the art
communication system. What about his cell phone?

hope this helps.

Thank you for trying to help. Unfortunately my husband is in an area that yes
has a few locations with internet access, but there he only has access via
the existing computers and cannot plug his computer in. So this is not an
option. Furthermore, yes there are quite a few phones around. Unfortunately
calling time is somewhat limited plus the quality of the connections lately
has been so bad that he can barely understand me. We might try to have him
IM me from one of the existing computers, while i am on the phone with
Microsoft and he can setup his laptop and follow the instructions i receive

A "slight" contradiction is evident:

"It is crucial for him to activate his already installed
upgrade since he needs it for his online college work."

Seems to me hubby indeed has internet access....

There are only two methods to achieve Product Activation:

1. via the internet
2. via the telephone

Carey,

thank you also for your help. As already explained, he can access the
internet on the computers provided by the army. There is no way he can plug
his personal machine in and activate the program online. Furthermore the use
of these computers is limited. Therefore he goes online, picks up his college
assignments online on the army computer and then works on his assignments on
his personal laptop until he is ready to submit them to his college. At this
point he cannot even download attachments on these computers, but for some
reason he is able to use instant messengers.

Believe me if there would have been a way he could utilize the internet
connection available to him, i would have not posted this question in the
first place. I know it is hard to understand how life can work nowadays with
things such as unlimited telephone or internet availability missing. Up til
now i took these things for granted.

Thank you again and i am sure we will find some way to help him.

You noticed the contradiction too, eh.. online courses and zero access to
the internet do not make for good bed fellows..

I am a bit polite not to point out the difficulties your husband s
likely to have (my good friend Carey has already done it) but for now he
has to use Openoffice which requires no activation. He should try this
link:

http://www.openoffice.org/

He can access this site using the facility he currently has.
